老师讲的和语法书上说的都是对的，只是你的老师没有把这个单词的用法全部讲解而已。看来，你是一个肯学肯钻的学生。
pay n,v.
n:薪水，薪金。His pay is too low
v:1.He paid 5 yuan for the book.=He spent 5 yuan on the book.
=He spent 5 yuan (in)buying /getting the book.
=The book cost him 5 yuan.他买这本书花了5元钱。
2.He had to pay for the book because he lost it.
他丢失了那本书，不得不赔偿。
3.The boss paid him 50 yuan for the work.
因为这个工作，老板付给他50元。

这四个都没错呀
eg: I paid 20 dollars for a new suit.
eg: I pay for the new suit.
eg: I paid the shop assistant 20 dollars.
eg: I paid my sister a new skirt for 20 dollars.
