Iron Goddess of Mercy
Iron Goddess of Mercy, also known as Tie Guan Yin in Chinese, is a type of oolong tea that originated from China's Fujian Province. The tea is named after Guan Yin, the Chinese goddess of mercy and compassion. According to legend, a poor farmer discovered a neglected temple dedicated to Guan Yin and began to care for it. In gratitude, Guan Yin appeared to the farmer in a dream and directed him to a treasure hidden behind the temple. The treasure was a tea shoot, which the farmer planted and cultivated. The resulting tea was found to be exceptionally fragrant and flavorful, and it became known as Tie Guan Yin, or Iron Goddess of Mercy. Today, Tie Guan Yin tea is prized for its rich aroma, floral and fruity notes, and silky smooth texture.
