Teaching Procedures Teaching Procedures Step One Lead-in (3’) Lead in the story after enjoying a fragment of a film. Step Two Reading and Appreciating (16’) Q: Which paragraphs will you choose to read aloud and share with your friends? Why did you choose the paragraphs to read aloud? Give your reasons. Invite some of the students to read some paragraphs aloud. Qs: What is the most interesting or impressive sentence/paragraph/ chapter/description in the story? Why? Invite some Ss to participate in the activity. Step Three Inquiring (16’) I. Character Analysis Q1: Which character do you think is the most impressive? Why? Q2: What was Joey thinking and feeling at different times? (Did his feelings have many ups and downs?) The protagonist’s psychological experience was one Vivid descriptions; Language appreciation Literary perspective Language abilities & their development The skills of reading aloud; Appreciation of dramatic and vivid descriptions; Speaking; Logical thinking; Critical thinking Character appreciation; Logical thinking; Critical thinking; Speaking Characters; Interior monologue; Characteri- zation; thread running through the story. Ask the students to describe and find out the protagonist’s feelings of ups and downs according to some illustrations. Invite some Ss to participate in the activity. II. Make a short summary Q3: It seems that Joey has changed a lot. What was Joey like before? How about now? Thread Critical thinking; Logical thinking Logical thinking; Critical thinking; Creative thinking; Speaking Step Four Evaluation & Inspiration (6’) A discussion and evaluation. Theme; Discuss in groups and then do group reports about: Empathizing Qs: What did Joey owe his success to at the end of the story? Are good boots important or not important for winning a game? What else do you think is important for success? Step Five Sharing (3’) Teacher shows some good homework to the class through slides, and makes some comments on it. Assignments(1’) I. Writing task(Extended writing): Since Joey has changed a lot, What will happen after the match? Will Joey and Tank become friends? Will Joey grow up being a great football player as he has dreamed in the future? Can you continue the story and write it down. II. Read the story Sing for Your Supper in a week. 1. Write a learning log while independent reading. 2. Finish the given questions for Sing for Your Supper after independent reading.
