SCOPE This specification is applied to M1 and N1 categories defined by EU Directive and the materials used for replacement parts of these types of vehicles. In addition, this specification defines analysis method, method of management, and the identification of the certain heavy metals that should not be contained in. (This specification does not apply to materials such as cutting oil, cleaner, masking tape and so on, which are consumed during manufacturing process but not remained for final product).
2. PURPOSE
1) This specification is to prevent contamination from heavy metals used for materials and components on running vehicles and end-of life vehicles and to meet the international environmental regulation positively. 2) The purpose of this specification is to satisfy the condition (Article 4 (2) and Annex II) that states regulation of the use of heavy metal in the process of manufacture of vehicle as laid down in EU
Directive/2000/53/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, which is effective from 10/21/2000, and to improve the environmental performance of HMC and KMC vehicles.
3) This specification will be amended in order to satisfy the revised regulation of heavy metals in Directive 2000/53/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council.
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 The following 4 types of heavy metals shall not be used for the purpose of the automotive components and
materials: Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+)
3.2 Exceptionally, few of heavy metal is tolerated as laid down ANNEX II of Directive 2000/53/EC. (Refer to
ANNEX II)
3.3 The limit of impurities: Even though heavy metals are not used intentionally but they are founded as mixture of
impurities, these heavy metal are tolerated within the following limitation. However the official document with signature of a representative director should be submitted as provided that these substances are not intentionally introduced.
Division Lead Mercury Cadmium Hexavalent Chromium Maximum Tolerance of Impurities (ppm) Until 12/31/04 900 900 90 900 After 1/01/05 100 100 70 100 3.4 Method of Report: The document should be submitted as provided that lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent

; in this case, the official document should explain explicitly that the use of heavy metals as substance for materials,
components are exceptionally approved).
4. APPLICABLE DATE
This specification is applied from the date of registration and it should be applied to production 6 months prior to the date determined by EU Directive.
