Tourism, a smokeless industry, is developing rapidly in China. With the reform and opening -up policy being carried out, thousands upon thousands of foreign visitors are crowding into our country. They are eager to see this old mysterious land with a splendid culture of more than 5, 000 years.

Tourism as a form of enterprise brings China a lot of benefits.

In the fires place, it is financially beneficial to the economic development of China. As our know, China needs more and more foreign currencies for its modernization program. Tourism is one of the most important channels to obtain currencies.

Secondly, tourism enables the Chinese people to know more about the outside world. On the other hand, the foreigners who have visited China are deeply impressed by the latest developments of out country and the friendliness and hospitality of our people. Reports by visitors to China about how courteous and helpful most Chinese were to them are often printed in newspapers of many different countries. It is clear that tourism contributes a great deal to the friendship and mutual understanding between the Chinese people and people all over the world.

Thirdly, tourism can make people make more friends. When we are traveling, we may have more chances to get to know different kinds of people and make friends with them. New friends especially who live in a different environment can always pour some new ideas into our minds. That is good for our soul.

Fourth, it can widen our knowledge. Maybe you have read some book about certain charming places, but if you haven’t been there, you won’t really appreciate the beautiful scenery and different culture. Go to one place yourself can make you know more about a different place, its different lifestyle, various food and son on. In this way, you can be a very knowledgeable person and it’s benefit for improving yourself.

Fifth, if you go to foreign country you can also practice a foreign language, your knowledge is widen again.

Sixth, It’s a kind of communication between two places. When you go to a different place, there is absolutely a comparison between the place you live and the one you visit. You will sense the differences and you can grab the elite, delete the dregs. It’s a way of learning.

Seventh, if a certain place wants to promote the development of its tourism, the government will come up with many ways to improve the conditions to attract visitors. On the other hand, it is a kind of construction and will benefit the residence who live there. So, it’s a way to provoke local governments to improve the living standard.

Eighth, tourism can contribute to the conservation of local culture. If the tourism resources are not been exploit, they may die out and it will be a loss of civilization.

Everything, however, has two sides. Tourism gives rise to a number of problems. For instance, it becomes a burden to our inefficient transportation system. Every time the fastigium comes, there will be so many people to rush to several places which results in many crimes such as theft, robbery, and so on. Serious social problems aroused.

Besides, it’s a money-cost issue. The living standard of the average Chinese is still not high enough to be able to afford the many different sorts of expenses during long distance travels. And people still do not know how to arrange time and money properly in travel. Maybe in many cases, people spend so much time and money on it and returned tiredly. They didn’t enjoy themselves so much.

What’s more, tourism is harmful to our environment in some cases. It ultimately creates a massive decline in biodiversity and also causes problems such as erosion, deforestation and pollution.

Take Jamaica, for example. Only a few short years ago, Jamaican beaches were lined with sand dunes that supported root systems for vegetation and created protective barriers against flood and erosion. Nowadays, hotel, road and

restaurant construction, as well as intensified use of public beaches has caused the dunes to disappear.

Negligence on the behalf of tourists has put the existence of plant and animal life in jeopardy. Thoughtless activities including stealing wildlife for souvenir purposes and littering can cause changes such as loss of habitats or food sources

for animals and changes in soil nutrients for plants. Tourists seeking a challenging or adventurous holiday may have no idea what their leisurelybreak is doing to the environment and business of the local people. For example, tourists who climb over Uluru in Central Australia speed the process of eroding the monumental land feature. Those who climb Mount Everest are often guilty of leaving behind litter such as oxygen tanks and camping equipment which damages habitats. In pacific or tropical island countries, such as Cuba and New Caledonia, tourists who want prime coastal locations have second homes or resorts built on beaches were turtles come ashore to lay eggs.

Therefore, there are still a lot of obstacles hindering the expansion of travel for us and tourism in our country.

As for me, with the development of our national economy, all these problems will certainly be solved step by step. A much better and brighter future awaits us.
