Yesterday Was an Awesome Day!
Wow, yesterday was such an awesome day! I had so much fun from the moment I woke up until the time I went to bed. Let me tell you all about the cool things I did.
It started first thing in the morning when my mom came into my room and gave me a big hug and kiss to wake me up. \"Rise and shine, sleepyhead!\" she said with a big smile. I could smell something delicious coming from the kitchen. My favorite - pancakes!
I jumped out of bed and got dressed as fast as I could. I put on my Spiderman t-shirt and blue shorts. Then I raced out to the kitchen where my dad had made a huge stack of fluffy pancakes shaped like Mickey Mouse. He sprinkled chocolate chips on them to make Mickey's ears and eyes and nose. Too cool! After devouring my pancakes, I could hardly wait to go outside and play. The sun was shining brightly and it was such a beautiful day. My best friend Tyler lives next door, so I ran over to see if he could come out. His mom said he was still finishing his breakfast but would be out in a little while.
While I waited for Tyler, I played with my dog Rufus in the backyard. I threw his red ball as far as I could and he'd race after it, scampering around gleefully. We played fetch for about 20 minutes until Tyler finally came out. \"Hey Tyler, you wanna go to the park?\" I asked excitedly. \"You know it!\" he replied with a big grin.
We hopped on our bikes and rode the few blocks to Murphy Park. Man, I just love that place! We headed straight for the jungle gym and took turns going down the big swirly slide. We played chase and climbing games for a while. Then we joined a group of other kids for a game of freeze tag. We ran around laughing and screaming, having an absolute blast.
After an hour or so, we started getting pretty hot so we walked over to the drinking fountain to get a nice cold drink of water. While we were resting, we noticed two teenagers throwing a frisbee back and forth. \"Hey, let's ask if we can play!\" said Tyler. So we walked over and one of the teens agreed to let us join their game.
At first the frisbee was kind of hard to catch because it would curve in weird ways. But after missing it a bunch of times, I started getting the hang of it. Tyler and I would run and leap up in the air trying to snag it. We were having so much fun!
After the frisbee game, Tyler said he had to go home for lunch. My tummy was growling too, so I rode my bike back home. My mom had made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, my fave! Along with some carrot sticks, apple slices, and a couple of cookies for dessert. Yummy!
My dad was home for lunch that day too. When he's not at work, he and I always play cards during his lunch break.
Yesterday we played crazy eights and then go fish. We get pretty competitive, talking smack to each other the whole time and seeing who can win the most games. It's awesome!
After lunch, I went outside and played some more with Rufus for a while. Then I heard Tyler calling my name. I looked over and he had his baseball mitt on. \"Hey buddy, wanna have a catch for a while?\" I ran inside and got my mitt. We took turns throwing grounders, pop flies, and pitching to each other.
A couple of other neighborhood kids named Zack and Emma saw us playing and came over to join the game too. We chose teams and played a quick pick-up game. I was batting and Tyler was pitching. He threw me a nice smooth pitch right over the plate and I crushed it! The ball went sailing over Emma's head into the neighbors' yard. \"Wow Jake, that was awesome!\" yelled Tyler as I sprinted around the bases.
We only had time for a couple more innings before our moms started calling for us to come in for a snack and drinks. We all sat on the patio enjoying lemonade, crackers, grapes and apple slices while we rested in the shade for a little bit.
Eventually Tyler had to go home for dinner, but Zack and Emma stayed and we rode our bikes up and down the street in front of our houses. We did tons of cool tricks, seeing who could bunnyhop the highest, manuals down the sidewalk, and awesome skid stops. Emma even taught me how to do the superman seat grab air!
We played bikes until our parents called us in for dinner. My dad grilled up some juicy hamburgers that smelled incredible! We had french fries, corn on the cob, and salad too. For dessert, we had my favorite - a huge banana split sundae topped with chocolate syrup, caramel, sprinkles, whipped cream and a cherry on top. So delicious!
After dinner, my parents and I took Rufus for a walk around the neighborhood. The sky looked amazing with beautiful oranges, pinks, and purples as the sun was setting. When we got home, my mom and dad said I could stay up a little later than normal since it was such a fun day.
We went into the living room and they let me pick any movie I wanted to watch from Disney+. I decided on Toy Story since that's my all-time favorite. We made popcorn and pulled out some blankets and pillows to get cozy on the couch. About halfway through the movie, I could feel my eyelids getting really heavy. Even though I tried hard to stay awake, I ended up dozing off, happy and totally tuckered out after such an incredibly awesome day.
