Unit 9 Train/Bus station

1:look:

Travelling by train or bus can be a pleasant experience. How does our group communicate in Modern English at the train station?

Western trains traveling longer distances offer a variety of tickets, from coach seats to sleeper cars to individual roomettes or bedrooms. There are dining cars, bar cars, observation cars and other facilities to attract customers.

How to inquire about cost, schedule, route Will you be taking the train or bus? At the train or bus station, usually!

You need information before buying tickets You don't want to travel 'blind'!

The group enters the train station, purchases their tickets to Reno, and get some information.

What can you ask about a train ride?

(The group enters the train station. The station was recently renovated at the same time that railway operations were being revised, so they need to get some information before buying their tickets) Carl: (to a bystander) Excuse me. Where's the ticket counter? Bystander: Down that hallway and to your right. Carl: Thanks. (They arrive at the ticket counter. Carl talks to the ticket agent) When does the next train leave for Reno? Agent: 10:30, sir. Carl: Fine. How much does a return ticket cost? Agent: $110 both ways. Carl: OK. (speaking for the group) We need 6 tickets please (pays for and receives

the tickets) How many stops will the train make on the way?

Agent: Just a quick stop to pick up passengers in the suburbs. John: Is smoking allowed on the train? Agent: Not any more, sir. (Good thing John had already smoked a couple of cigarettes on

the way to the station)

Carl: Where do we board the train? Agent: Entrance #11. Carl: Thanks for your help. Let's go, everyone!

Who: Where: When: Why:

Where's the ticket counter? When does the next train leave for Reno? Agent: 10:30,先生。 Carl: Fine. How much does a return ticket cost? (代表其他人说道) 我们需要六张票(付钱拿票) How many stops will the train make on the way? John: Is smoking allowed on the train? (幸好 John 在来车站的路上已经抽了不少烟了) Carl: Where do we board the train?

卧铺车厢是 'a sleeping car', 还可以叫 'a sleeper'。卧铺票是 'a sleeper ticket'。 的票\"要说 'the ticket to somewhere'; 比如: \"I want to buy a ticket to Shanghai.\" (我想买一张去上海的车票。) 2.

比较一下这两句话: \"He has left Beijing.\" 和 \"He has left for Beijing.\" 它们的意思分别是\"他离开北京了\"和\"他去北京了\"。

说,全程来回的车票叫 'a round-trip ticket', 单乘车票叫 'a one-way ticket', 返程车 票就是 'a return ticket'。另外,在使用 'cost' 时,其基本句型是 'something cost somebody some time/money'。比如, \"The trip to Nanjing cost me 1000 yuan.\" (去南 京的那趟旅 行花了我1000 块钱。)

to someone' 或者 'serve someone with the dishes'.

the dishes heart and

'serve in the army'。

Is smoking allowed on the train?\"

The next stop is …, please take your seat and get ready for arrival.\"

8. 'ticket counter',

'book/reserve a ticket'; 也可以买票,即 'buy a ticket'; 另外还可以退票,即 'cancel a ticket'。 9.

\"Excuse me, I can't seem to find my seat. Can you help me?\" 这句话我们重点来看看 'seem' 这个词。 比如我们可以说: \"He seemed a little bit tired after listening to my complaints for so long.\" (他听我抱怨了那么半天,显得有点儿累了。) 还可以用 'it seems that…' 的句型,比如同样的句子,我们可以说:\"It seemed that he was a little bit tired after listening to my complaints for so long.\"

train'。 听到老外说这句话,你就要明白,其实他在问:\"Where is my seat?\"

Even though rail companies try many things to attract customers, most Americans and Canadians prefer to travel by car (for shorter distances) or by airplane (for longer distances), especially since rail travel is relatively expensive. Many will even drive the longer distances, especially if they want to visit different locations along the way.

Western trains traveling longer distances offer a variety of tickets, from coach seats to sleeper cars to individual roomettes or bedrooms. There are dining cars, bar cars, observation cars and other facilities to attract customers.
