It was a very long drive, and when we arrived we went straight to bed. The next morning we got up early, fed the ducks on the lake, and looked at the cows in the next field. Then we met our teacher, Michael, who seemed quite strict, and the other parents and children, who were really friendly.
The cooking part was wonderful. Michael gave us long white coats to wear, which we all felt a bit silly in. Then we were asked to mix flour (面粉) and water with our hands. My sister kept complaining at first. However, she then started to enjoy it, and to try her best to follow the instructions. Dad made a big mess. I got flour on the floor and in my hair, and Mom didn’t even get angry! We all spent a lot of time making our bread.
After we were done, we made some pizzas and put toppings (配料) on them, which was fun. And we didn’t even have to do the washing-up (洗餐具)! You probably already know that exercise can help you lose weight and stay fit. However, it
has a lot of other good effects(影响) ,too. Are you healthy and fit? Even if you are, there are several reasons that you should exercise.
First, exercise can give you energy. When you are tired during the day and you can’t study or work, don’t take a nap(x小睡). Take a walk or go for a run instead. Researchers looked at 70 different studies about exercise and tiredness. In the studies, people who didn't exercise started to exercise regularly. As a result, they felt less tired. They didn’t feel tired during the day. Over 90 percent of the studies showed the same results: regular exercise increased energy and reduced tiredness.
Second, exercise can help you sleep better. It’s important to get enough sleep. Lack (缺少) of sleep is one of the main causes of stress. Exercising raises your body temperature. Your temperature goes back to normal about five to six hours after you exercise. You become sleepy at this point because the drop in temperature tells your body that it’s time to sleep. Also, exercise can reduce stress and anxiety. Do you ever feel nervous or stressed? Working out for 20 minutes can make you feel calm. How? When you exercise, you have to focus on your body, so you can’t think about your stressful thoughts. In addition, when you exercise, your body creates a special chemical. This chemical can help your brain react to stress. Finally, studies show that exercise is good for your brain, especially your memory. Exercising makes your body create new cells in a part of the brain called the hippocampus (海马体). Memory and learning happen in the hippocampus. Because of this increase in cells, exercising can improve your memory and make it easier to learn new things.
Regular exercise can improve your life in so many ways. It can make you feel better, look better, and do more. So why are you sitting there reading? Go out and exercise! 46. What is the writer’s main purpose of writing this passage? A. To introduce some new studies about exercise. B. To describe how exercise can change the life. C. To help some people to learn how to stay fit. D. To advise more people to take regular exercise.
47. Which of the following may cause stress according to the passage? A. A five-hour nap in the day. C. Not having enough sleep.
B. Some exercise before sleep. D. The drop in body temperature.
48. How does the writer organize Paragraph 4?
A. By telling a story and making a summary. B. By asking questions and giving reasons. C. By showing opinions and sharing a saying. D. By listing numbers and giving examples. 49. What is one of the good effects of exercise according to Paragraph 5? A. Winning the first place in a test. C. Keeping in good physical health.
B. Improving memory and learning easily. D. Looking pretty with a good appearance.

Bicycles play an important role in our daily life. . 51 As we travel around on bicycles, we might not know the long history of this amazing little machine.
No one can say for sure when the bicycle was invented. 52 They had two wheels. But that was all they had in common with the modern bike.
By the middle of the 1800s, improvements were made to the early bicycles. A pedal(踏板) for moving the bicycle forward was added. 53 Since the bicycle was made of wood, and later of metal tires, riding on the roads that aren't smooth was uncomfortable.
In the late 1870s, a huge front wheel was used and the seat was moved forward so that the rider could sit directly over the front wheel and pedals. However, the rider sat up high over a huge front wheel and easily fell down. 54
In 1885, the first successful “safety” bicycle was designed. The seat of this bike was positioned further back towards the middle of the bike. And a basic gearing(齿轮)system was added. The new design also added other important things. 55 It solved safety matters by reducing the size of the front wheel. The rest, as they say, is history!
A. We can keep happy by bike. B. With these, the safety bicycle was born. C. So it was dangerous to ride these bicycles. D. Today's bicycles are light, fast, and comfortable. E. And that allowed the rider to keep both feet on at all times. F. But early scooter-like bikes were invented in France in the late 1700s.

It’s common to have stress in life. Different people feel stressed in different ways. As for me, the stress comes from study. When I do badly in an exam, I feel stressed. When I have trouble with my homework, I feel stressed. Some students think stress is a bad thing. Every coin has two sides. While stress can make us worried, it can also make us a stronger person. When we are stressed, we may push ourselves harder and go out of our way to solve problems.
I have my own ways to deal with stress. Usually I ask my friends and parents for help. I always get great ideas from them. I also sing along with the music. And I sometimes go to the playground to give a loud shout, especially when I’m under great pressure.
In short, when we have stress, we shouldn’t be afraid. We should use it as a tool and deal with it in our own way. If so, we’ll lead a happy life.
