My Summer Vacation

Last summer was the best summer of my life! It was the first time I got to go on a big vacation with just my mom and dad and little brother Tommy. We went to a beach in Florida for a whole week.

The drive to Florida took forever. Tommy kept asking \"Are we there yet?\" every five minutes. Dad finally said if he asked one more time, we'd turn around and go home. That shut Tommy up for a little while at least.

When we finally made it to the beach, I was so excited I could hardly stand it. I had only ever seen the ocean on TV before. It was much bigger and louder than I thought it would be. The waves crashed onto the shore loudly and the salty air smelled kind of funny at first.

We stayed at this big resort with a huge pool in the middle. Our room had two queen beds and a little kitchen area. As soon as we dropped our stuff off, I changed into my bathing suit to go

check out the pool. The water was perfectly warm and there was even a waterslide! Tommy and I must have gone down that thing a hundred times.

After a few hours of swimming, we were starving. We walked along the beach until we found a little restaurant right on the sand. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. It was so good, probably because we had worked up an appetite from all the swimming. For dessert, I got a huge ice cream sundae. I thought I was going to explode!

The next day, dad rented us some boogie boards and took us out in the ocean. I was a little nervous about the big waves at first, but dad helped me and pretty soon I was riding them like a pro. Well, maybe not a pro, but I was catching a lot of waves at least. Poor Tommy wasn't having as much luck. He got crushed by a big wave and didn't want to go out anymore after that. More fun for me!

One of the highlights was getting to see a sea turtle nest hatch at night. Our resort had a naturalist who took small groups out on the beach after dark. We had to be really quiet and turn off all lights so we didn't scare the baby turtles. Watching all those tiny turtles scramble across the sand to the ocean was just amazing.

Another cool thing we got to do was go on an airboat ride across the everglades. We saw a ton of alligators and cool birds up close. The guide was really funny and taught us a lot of interesting facts. Dad let me drive the airboat for a little bit which was awesome!

Towards the end of the week, the weather took a turn for the worse. It rained buckets for an entire day. We were stuck inside watching movies and playing cards and board games. As fun as that was for a little while, I was so glad when the rain finally stopped the next day. We spent that whole day on the beach soaking up the sun before we had to leave.

On our final morning, I didn't want to leave. I begged mom and dad to move to Florida so I could play on the beach every day. They just laughed and told me I'd get sick of it after awhile. I don't think I would have though!

The drive home seemed twice as long as the drive there. I spent most of it sleeping off my vacation exhaustion. When we finally pulled into the driveway, I was sad it was over but so happy I got to have that amazing experience. I'll never forget that incredible week at the beach. Hopefully mom and dad will take us back again next summer!

My Summer Vacation

Last summer was the best summer ever! I had so much fun and did a lot of cool things. First, my family went on a big vacation to California. We traveled there by airplane which was really exciting for me since I had never flown before.

The flight was pretty long but I didn't get bored because I brought my tablet to watch movies and play games. I also read a great book about a kid who goes on adventures in space. When we finally landed in Los Angeles, I could barely contain my excitement looking out the window at the huge city outside. We stayed at a really nice hotel right near the beach in Santa Monica. The first thing we did was go to the beach and play in the ocean waves. The water was cold at first but after a while it felt refreshing. I spent hours bodyboarding and building sandcastles with my little brother. We also went kayaking in the ocean which was scary at first but ended up being awesome. One of the highlights was definitely going to Disneyland! I had been dreaming about that my entire life. We spent two full days at the parks riding all the famous rollercoasters like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Indiana Jones. My favorite was

probably the Incredicoaster though because I love The Incredibles movies. We also met a bunch of Disney characters and got their autographs. Goofy even gave me a big hug! Another cool place we visited was the Santa Monica Pier. They had a huge ferris wheel, carousel, roller coaster, and all kinds of games and food stands. We went there twice because we loved it so much. I won a big stuffed animal playing one of the games which I gave to my little sister.

When we weren't doing big activities, we just relaxed by the hotel pool. I spent a lot of time swimming and perfecting my cannonball jumps into the pool. In the evenings, we would walk along the beach looking for seashells and watching the gorgeous sunsets over the ocean.

After a week in Los Angeles, we drove over to San Diego for a few days. My favorite place there was definitely the San Diego Zoo. It's one of the biggest zoos in the world! We saw so many cool animals like gorillas, tigers, zebras, koalas, and my personal favorite: the giant pandas. They were so cute and fluffy as they munched on bamboo. I took about a million pictures and videos of them.

Towards the end of the trip, we visited my aunt and uncle who live in San Francisco. That was another new experience for

me riding on the iconic cable cars there. We went to the beach, did some shopping, and ate delicious sourdough bread from a local bakery. I also saw the famous Alcatraz prison from the outside which was neat but also creepy.

On our last day in California, we went on a walking tour and learned all about the Gold Rush and early settlers in that area. It was actually pretty interesting, not just some boring history lecture. The tour guide made it really fun and engaging. I'm glad I went because I learned some new things.

After what felt like the fastest two weeks of my life, we headed back home to Ohio. I was really sad for the vacation to end, but also excited to see my friends again and tell them all about my awesome trip to the West Coast. California is such a cool state with so many different things to see and do.

I made so many incredible memories that summer that I'll never forget. From riding rollercoasters at Disneyland to splashing in the Pacific Ocean to seeing giant pandas up close, it was all just amazing. My parents promised we can go back to California again one day since we didn't have time to do everything. I'm already counting down the days until my next adventure! Maybe next time we'll go to places like Yosemite or Hollywood. But no matter where we go, I know it will be magical

and unforgettable just like this trip was. I'm so lucky my family is able to travel and let me experience new places like this. Summer 2023 will go down as one of the greatest of all time!

My Summer Vacation

The last day of school finally arrived, and I couldn't wait for summer vacation to begin! I had so many fun plans and was looking forward to not having any schoolwork for a couple of months.

The first week of summer, my family didn't have any special plans, so I spent a lot of time playing outside with my friends. We rode our bikes around the neighborhood and went to the park almost every day. One day, we found a baseball in my garage and played a pick-up game of baseball at the field near my house. It was really hot out, so we made sure to drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade.

After that first week, my family went on our annual trip to the beach. We stayed in a beach house right by the ocean. Every morning, I woke up, ate breakfast, and then immediately went outside to play in the waves. I spent hours in the water – bodyboarding, snorkeling, and swimming. In the afternoons, I

would take a break and read books in the shade or build sandcastles on the beach. For dinner, we often grilled

hamburgers or hotdogs and ate outside on the deck overlooking the ocean.

In the evenings, we would go for long walks on the beach to look for seashells and cool rocks. Sometimes we would have bonfires and roast marshmallows for s'mores. One night, we even went crabbing off the pier and caught several crabs in our net! Overall, the week at the beach was so relaxing and fun. When we got back home from the beach trip, it was already the middle of July. My friend Sam's birthday was coming up, so a bunch of us planned a fun surprise party for him. We all met at the park near Sam's house and waited for him to arrive. When he got there, we yelled \"surprise!\" and brought out a chocolate cake and ice cream. We played fun party games like pin the tail on the donkey and had races. For the party favors, we each got a water gun so we could have a huge water fight. It was such a hot day that the water fight really cooled us all off. Sam had a huge smile on his face the whole time because he was so surprised and happy.

A couple of weeks later, my family went on a camping trip to the mountains. We borrowed a big tent from our neighbors and

all of our camping gear from my aunt and uncle. The first night under the stars was beautiful, but I was pretty scared when I heard a strange noiseoutside the tent! It turned out to just be a raccoon digging through our snack bags. Phew!

During the days on our camping trip, we went for long hikes in the forest. We saw all kinds of cool plants, birds, and even a couple of deer! One day we found a big stream and went swimming in the fresh water. Another day, we drove to a really pretty waterfall and had a picnic lunch while admiring the scenery.

In the evenings after dinner, we had campfires and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. We told silly stories and looked at all the bright stars that we couldn't see in the city. Before going to bed each night, my dad and I would try to identify all the different constellations. I have such great memories of that camping trip with my family.

Towards the end of the summer, my family didn't have any other vacations planned, so we just had fun hanging out at home. My friends and I had a huge Lego building contest one day and built all kinds of cool spaceships, cities, and machines. Another day, we set up a domino line that went all through my house. It

took us hours to set it all up, but it was so satisfying to watch them all topple over!

One of the last really fun things I did before going back to school was attending a music concert downtown. My favorite band was performing in the park, and my parents surprised me with tickets for my birthday. The music was so energetic and lively that I was dancing and jumping around with my friends the whole time. We also bought glow stick necklaces and snacked on cotton candy and popcorn during the show. It was such a magical summer night that I'll never forget!

As the end of summer neared, I felt a little sad to be going back to school, but I was also excited to see my friends every day again and to learn new things. I made so many fun memories over summer vacation - at the beach, at friend's birthday parties, on camping trips, and just being a kid and playing with my friends. I felt so lucky to have had an amazing summer break!
