The_Giving_Tree

Once there was a giving tree, 这里曾经有棵奉献树， and she loved a little boy. 她深爱着一个小男孩。

And every day the boy would come, 每天男孩都跑来玩耍， And he would gather her leaves, 每天他都收集她的叶子。 And make them into crowns, 并把叶子制成王冠， And play king of the forest. 玩丛林之王的游戏。 He would climb up her trunk, 爬上树干， swing from her branches, 摇晃她的树枝， and eat apples. 吃苹果。

They would play hide-and-go-seak. 玩捉迷藏游戏。 When he was tired, he would sleep in her shade.

当他累了的时候他可以在她树荫下休息。

And the boy loved the tree… very much. 男孩爱着这棵树。。。非常爱。 and the tree was happy树很开心。

But time went by, 但是时间一点点过去， and the boy grew older.很快小男孩长大了。 the tree was often alone. 树常常一人呆在原地。

Then one day the boy came to the tree, 有一天男孩来到树前：

And the tree said: “Come, boy, come and climb up my trunk and swing from my braches, and eat apples and play in my shade and be happy.”

树说：“来啦，来爬爬我的树杆，摇摇我的树枝，吃点苹果，在树荫下玩耍，开开心心的。”

“I am too big to climb and play”, said the boy. “我已经不是玩耍的年级了” “I want to buy things and have fun. I want some money.

我要买东西要寻开心，我需要钱了。

Can you give me some money?” “你能给我么？”

“I sorry.” said the tree, “but I have no money, I have only leaves and apples, take my apples. Boy，and sell them in the city. Then you will have money and you will be happy.”“对不起”树说，“我没有钱我只有叶子和苹果，拿

走我的苹果吧，卖了它你就会有钱了，你会开开心心的。“

So the boy climbed up the tree and gathered her apples and carried them away. 男孩爬上树，拿着苹果离去。 And the tree was happy. 树很开心。。。

But the boy stayed away for a long time… 但是男孩一走就是很长时间。。。 And the tree was sad. 树很伤心。

Then one day the boy came back.直到有一天男孩回来了，

And the tree shook with joy and she said, “come, boy, come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and be happy.”

树开心地摇晃着说：“来，爬爬我的树干，摇摇我的树枝，开开心心的。”

“I am too busy to climb trees,” said the boy, “I want a house to keep me warm,” he said. I want a wife and I want children, and so I need a house. Can you give me a house?” “我太忙了没有时间爬树，”男孩说，“我需要房子，我

想要妻子和孩子，所以需要房子，你能给我吗？”

“I have no house,” said the tree, “the forest is my house, but you may cut off my branches and build a house. Then you will be happy.”“我没有房子，”

树说，“森林就是我的家，不过你可以砍下我的枝条去搭建房子，那样你就会开心了。”

And the boy cut off her braches and carried them away to build his house.

男孩砍下枝条，去修建房子。。。

And the tree was happy. 树很开心。。。

But the boy stayed away for a long time… 但是男孩又是很长时间没有回来。。。 And when he came back, the tree was so happy, she could hardly speak.

树开心地几乎不能说话。

“Come, boy” she whispered, “come and play.”

“来吧，孩子”她低声说，“来玩吧”

“I am too old and sad to play,” said the boy, “I want a boat that will take me far away from here, can you give me a boat?” “我太老了，而且很悲伤”男

孩说，“我想要一艘船，可以带我离开这里，你能给我么？”

“Cut down my trunk and make a boat,” said the tree. “then you can sail away …and will be happy.”

“砍下我的树干做一艘船，”树说，“那样你就可以离开这里，开开心心的。”

And so the boy cut down her trunk and made a boat and sailed away.

男孩砍下树干，做了艘小船，远航。。。

And the tree was happy…树很开心。。。 But not really…并非如此。。。

And after a long time the boy came back again,很长一段时间过去，男孩回来了。 “I am sorry, boy” said the tree, “but I have nothing left to give you, my apples are gone.”

“对不起，孩子”树说，“但是我已经没有可以给你的东西了，我也没有了苹果。”

“My teeth are too weak for apples,” said the boy.

我的牙齿已经没办法吃苹果了。

“My braches are gone,” said the tree, “you cannot swing on them---”

我的枝条的没有了你不能再挂在上面玩了。

“I am too old to swing on the branches,” said the boy.

“我的年纪已经不能玩枝条了。”

“My trunk is gone,” said the tree, “you cannot climb---”

“我的树干没有了，你不能爬了。”

“I am too tired to climb,” said the boy. “我已经太累了爬不动了。”

“I am sorry,” signed the tree, “I wish that I could give you something---but I have nothing left. I am just an old stump. I am sorry…”

“对不起”，树说，“我真希望给你些东西，可是我什么也不剩了，我只是。。。一个树墩了。对不起。。。”

“I don’t need very much now,” said the boy, “just a quiet place to sit and rest. I am very tired.” “现在我不需要很多东西了，”男孩说，“我需要一个安静的地

方歇歇脚，我实在太累了。”

“Well,” said the tree, straitening herself up as much as she could, “Well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting, Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest.” “那么，”树说，努力地挺直了身躯，“那么，一个老树墩就是适合一

个休息的地方。来，孩子，坐吧，坐下休息吧。”

And the boy did. 男孩坐下了。

And the tree was happy. 树真的很开心。。。
