Why Do Students Cheat

Nowadays, there are many usual ways for students to cheat in examination. Some students take their notes into the test rooms. Some students ask their classmates the answers by whispering or gesturing while taking the exams. And some students just copy the answers of students who sit near to them without caring how similar to their answers. It is interesting to focus on the question that why some students still keep cheating in exams even though they know that the punishments of university are getting so tougher and tougher.

Interestingly, studies and surveys have shown that most students do believe that cheating is wrong. What triggers them to act opposite to their belief? There are three main reasons:

1. Expediency or the easy way out.

2. Want to get a higher score.

3. Everybody does it.

Expediency or the easy way out. It is unsurprising that most students want good grades and better academic performance. Yet a lot of students have trouble meeting their original educational goals due to the lack of studying skills, poor stress and time management, abundance of non-academic obligations, etc. Therefore, in order to complete their ambitions on time or receive a better grade

Want to get a higher score. Some students do have the ability to pass the exam. But the young always become quite illogical when they try to decide what can be done and what can not be done. In the high light of this statement, some students are often willing to sacrifice their credibility for the temptation of getting more points and being regarded as outstanding students.

Everybody does it. While the majority of people do believe that cheating is wrong, they still commit it regardless. People act opposite to their belief as the abundance of cheating in school makes it seem less shameful and wrong as it really is. “Everybody does it.” is surely a popular excuse for misdemeanors.

Shortly, students shouldn’t cheat on any account. Cheating is unfair to all the people who aren't cheating. It will ultimately lower your self-respect, because you can never be proud of anything you got by cheating. If you cheat in school now, you'll find it easier to cheat in other situations later in life - perhaps even in your closest personal relationships.
