1.Scope*
1.1Thisspecificationcoverstwotypesandfourstrengthgradesofhigh-strengthlow-alloy,hotrolledstructuralsteelplateforuseintruckframes,brackets,cranebooms,railcars,andsimilarapplications.Steelsthatconformtothisspecifica-tionofferimprovedformability.Thesesteelsarenormallyfurnishedintheas-rolledcondition.Thetypeandstrengthgradefurnishedisasagreeduponbetweenthemanufacturerandthepurchaser.Thetypesandstrengthgradesareshowninthetables.

3.GeneralRequirementsforDelivery
3.1PlatesfurnishedunderthisspecificationshallconformtotherequirementsofthecurrenteditionofSpecificationA6/A6M,forthespecificplateordered,unlessaconflictexists,inwhichcasethisspecificationshallprevail.
3.2Coilsareexcludedfromqualificationtothisspecifica-tionuntiltheyareprocessedintofinishedplates.Platesproducedfromcoilmeansplatesthathavebeencuttoindividuallengthsfromacoil.Theprocessordirectlycontrols,orisresponsiblefor,theoperationsinvolvedintheprocessingofacoilintofinishedplates.Suchoperationsincludedecoiling,leveling,cuttingtolength,testing,inspection,conditioning,heattreatment(ifapplicable),packaging,marking,loadingforshipment,andcertification.
NOTE1—Forplatesproducedfromcoilandfurnishedwithoutheattreatmentorwithstressrelievingonly,twotestresultsaretobereportedforeachqualifyingcoil.AdditionalrequirementsregardingplateproducedfromcoilaredescribedinSpecificationA6/A6M.
1.3Thevaluesstatedineitherinch-poundunitsorSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Withinthetext,theSIunitsareshowninbrackets.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemarenotexactequivalents;therefore,eachsystemmustbeusedinde-pendentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresultinnonconformancewiththisspecification.SeeAppendixX3ofSpecificationA6/A6Mforinformationonweldability.

5.1Heatanalysesshallconformtothechemicalrequire-mentsgiveninTable1.Dependentuponthickness,grade,andintendedapplication,variationsinthechemicalcompositionarepermittedwithinthelimitsgiveninTable1fortheapplicabletype.Whereitisofparticularimportance,themanufacturershouldbeconsultedforspecificchemicalcom-position.
5.2ProductAnalysis—Ifaproductanalysisismade,itshallconformtotherequirementsgiveninTable1,subjecttotheproductanalysistolerancesofSpecificationA6/A6M.
5.3Wheresteelistobewelded,itispresupposedthataweldingproceduresuitableforthegradeofsteelandintendeduseorservicewillbeutilized.
5.4Unlessspecificallyordered,thetypeisatthediscretionoftheproducer.
6.TensionTest
6.1TheplatesasrepresentedbythetestspecimensshallconformtotherequirementsgiveninTable2.
